â° Best time: Spring or early summer. Your Monstera will recover faster and grow actively after repotting.
Your Monstera needs repotting when:
Go up only 2-3 inches in diameter. A pot too big holds excess moisture and causes root rot. Make sure it has drainage holes!
Monstera likes a chunky, well-draining mix. Combine:
Gently tip the pot and slide the plant out. If it's stuck, run a knife along the inside edge or squeeze the plastic pot. Never pull by the stems.
Gently loosen any tightly coiled or circling roots. Trim any that are brown, mushy, or smell bad. Healthy roots should be pale and firm.
Add a layer of fresh soil in the bottom. Set your Monstera at the same depth it was before — don't bury the stems. Fill around the sides, pressing gently to eliminate air pockets.
Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom. Place in indirect light and don't fertilize for 4-6 weeks — the fresh soil has enough nutrients.
